Instructor Hugh Puttock returns from Hong Kong
Here is a brief insight into Instructor Hugh's recent trip to Hong Kong.
“Landing hours before typhoon Neogur slammed into southern China just added to the usual excitement found on a trip to Hong Kong.
The following day I was going to attend a ceremony at Yip Man's grave but because of the bad weather the ceremony was held at the Ving Tsun Athletic Association. That evening was the banquet, which was a good time to settle in and catch up with people I haven't seen for many years.
Training wise, this trip has been the most rewarding with regards to a greater understanding in some of Master Chu's teachings. I would like to pass on some tips but to put it into text is not easy, it requires a ‘hands on' approach.
A great deal of time was spent just standing in my stance for hours trying to go through the stages of relaxation before I could even start to think about Siu Nim Tau or Chi Sau.
There is no quick fix in learning Wing Chun. Master Chu and his students have all spent hours and still do spend hours training to get where they are today.
An idea of the time I was able to put into training while in Hong Kong is, I would start between 1pm and train through to 4pm at the VTAA. Grab a bite to eat, then at 5pm through to 11pm I would train at Master Chu's with a quick stop for cow noddle at 7 to 7.30. After Master Chu's class I would head up to the roof top for Ah Chongs class which runs until about 2.30-3.am. Fortunately not all days are that long…..”
