Introduction to Chi Sau Seminar big success
The first of a series of Wing Chun seminars was a big success with 30 students, including three from Timaru attending Sifu's Introduction to Chi Sau Seminar during December 07.
Sifu Jenkin's chose Chi Sau as the first topic because of two main reasons. The first being the heart of the Wing Chun system is the ability to Chi Sau. It is where the student develops an understanding of the fighting principles of Wing Chun. The second is that the forms of Wing Chun develop the tools to produce, absorb and deliver force and Chi Sau is where you learn to execute and apply those tools.
Because Chi Sau is such an in-depth topic that cannot be covered in one seminar, Sifu Jenkins focused on facing the shadow (Chiu Ying), chasing the shadow (Jui Ying), pointing towards the centre (Gee Ng Sien) and changing hands. Sifu then practically demonstrated and students practiced 12 drills to learn about these key concepts.
The seminar was well received and all students regardless of their level learnt something new from the seminar. It certainly gave students something to think about and practice over the coming months!
