Doce Pares Eskrima (Philippines)
This system develops the skills of stick and knife fighting and combines them with Pangamont (Ju Jitsu, Judo and grappling).Students learn to wield any weapon (blunt or sharp) with blinding speed and precision. A wide range of skills are taught so students develop the ability to fight weapons versus weapons, empty hand versus weapons, as well as general fighting skills.
Students of Doce Pares develop:
- A knowledge and appreciation of how dangerous the weapon they may be confronted with is.
- An awareness of what items in their environment may be used as a weapon in defence.
- How to protect against a weapon attack, disarm the assailant and if necessary use that weapon in defence.
Joint manipulation and ground defence (grappling) form an important part of the syllabus. A large percentage of actual combat situations end up on the ground. Although this is an undesirable position to be in it is important to know what to do should you find yourself in that position.
Joint manipulation allows a measure of control with minimal injury to your opponent. It is important to be aware of the amount of force you use to deal with a given situation.
Sport Stick-fighting
Doce Pares Eskrima can be practiced as an art, as a sport or both. The sport side of Doce Pares Eskrima is commonly known as “Stick-Fighting”.Sport Stick-fighting allows you to practice and apply the skills you have learnt in a combatitive environment against an opponent in a ring. Both parties spar and fight each other while wearing full protective armour using either a single or double stick. Similar to boxing, sport stick-fighting is governed by strict rules, including number and length of rounds, lawful and unlawful strikes. Because full armour is worn sport stick-fighting allows you to fight without fear of sustaining serious injury and is a lot of fun!
Doce Pares Eskrima and Sport Stick-Fighting is suitable for those new to martial arts and existing martial artists interested in combative sparring and extending their skills in weaponary.
